The Story Behind....
“Loving Me Back”
“Loving Me Back” is a song about finally experiencing the kind of love you’ve spent your life giving to everybody else.
It comes from the perspective of a man who knows how to love hard. He has given his time, loyalty, patience, protection, and heart to people he cared about. But somewhere along the way, he realized there is a big difference between loving somebody and being loved in return.
Then he meets a woman who changes that.
She doesn’t just tell him she loves him—she shows it. She checks on him. She stands beside him. She gives him peace instead of confusion. When he reaches for her, she reaches back. When life gets difficult, she doesn’t disappear. For the first time, he doesn’t feel like he has to carry the entire relationship by himself.
That realization becomes the heart of the record:
“I spent so much time loving everybody else that I almost forgot what it felt like to have somebody loving me back.”
That’s why Loving Me Back isn’t simply another love song. It’s about reciprocal love—two people choosing each other and putting the same energy into what they are building.
There’s also maturity behind the song. It recognizes that real love isn’t always dramatic. Sometimes love is waking up knowing somebody genuinely cares whether you’re okay. It’s having someone who listens when you speak, protects your peace, celebrates your victories, and stays close when things aren’t perfect.
And after experiencing relationships where love may have felt one-sided, that kind of connection feels completely different.
The message of “Loving Me Back” is simple:
I know how to love you. But what makes this love special is that you know how to love me too.
That is the feeling Imagine Sound wanted to capture—a grown, soulful love record about finally finding someone who gives your heart a home instead of another battle to fight.

The Story Behind....
“Don’t Get Caught in the Web”
“Don’t Get Caught in the Web” was born from survival, family, loss, and the kind of pain that changes the way a man looks at life.
The story begins with a gunshot.
A .22-caliber bullet struck Derrick in the shoulder, traveled toward his collarbone, and remained inside him for months. The physical wound eventually began to heal, but the experience left something deeper behind. Surviving made every breath feel different. It was a reminder that tomorrow is never promised.
Then, only two weeks after Derrick was shot, tragedy hit the family again.
His cousin Marcus—known as “King Spider”—was shot and killed.
That loss gave the word “web” a deeper meaning.
The spider imagery became a way of honoring King Spider while also describing the environment surrounding the story. A web can represent the streets, consequences, loyalty, betrayal, grief, and circumstances that slowly wrap themselves around people. Sometimes you don’t realize you’re trapped until you’re already caught.
So when the record says “Don’t Get Caught in the Web,” it carries more than one message.
It’s a warning about getting pulled too deeply into situations that can cost you your freedom or your life. It’s also the voice of someone who survived looking back at someone he loved who didn’t get the same opportunity.
Underneath the hard exterior of the record is grief.
Derrick knows what it feels like to have a bullet enter his own body. That’s why Marcus’s death wasn’t just another story about somebody getting shot. It was personal. Derrick had survived his own shooting only days before having to confront the reality that his cousin was gone.
And that’s where King Spider lives inside the record.
The spider, the web, and the crown aren’t simply imagery—they represent a fallen family member whose name and memory continue through the music.
The song ultimately carries two voices at once: the survivor and the mourner.
One says:
“I made it.”
The other asks:
“Why didn’t you?”
And somewhere between those two emotions came “Don’t Get Caught in the Web.”
It isn’t simply a street record. It’s a chapter of a real story transformed into music—a reminder that choices and circumstances can have permanent consequences, a tribute to someone who is gone, and a survivor carrying the memory forward.

R.I.P. King Spider. The man may be gone, but the web carries his memory.

The Story Behind....
“I Can’t Hold On”
“I Can’t Hold On” is the story of a woman who has spent so much of her life being strong that nobody noticed how tired she had become.
She’s holding onto everything—family, relationships, finances, responsibilities, expectations, disappointment, and pain. Every time something begins to fall apart, she grabs tighter because she believes it’s her responsibility to keep everything together.
She keeps telling herself, “Just hold on a little longer.”
But eventually, holding on starts hurting more than letting go.
That’s the moment behind the song.
“I Can’t Hold On” isn’t about quitting on life. It’s about reaching the point where you realize you were never meant to carry every burden alone. The woman in the song has exhausted her strength trying to save situations she cannot control and relationships she cannot repair by herself.
Finally, she looks toward God and admits the words she has been afraid to say:
“Lord, I can’t hold on anymore.”
And something powerful happens.
She discovers that letting go doesn’t necessarily mean falling.
Sometimes letting go means falling into the hands of God.
That is why the imagery behind I Can’t Hold On is so important: a woman hanging desperately onto the things she believes she cannot lose, while beneath her are the open hands of God. She thinks releasing her grip will destroy her, but what she cannot see is that she is already being caught.
The song moves from exhaustion to surrender, and from surrender toward faith.
It speaks to anybody who has ever smiled while secretly struggling, carried everybody else’s problems while ignoring their own, or stayed in something simply because they were afraid of what would happen if they finally released it.
The message is:
You can love something and still let it go. You can fight for something and eventually admit you’re tired. You can stop carrying everything and still be strong.
Sometimes the strongest prayer isn’t “God, give me the strength to keep holding on.”
Sometimes it’s:
“God, I can’t hold on anymore. So I’m putting it in Your hands.”
Imagine Sound presents “I Can’t Hold On” — a song about reaching the end of your strength and discovering that surrender can be the beginning of healing.
